Photos from First Rehearsal (And Teeth)

Hello

Filming is in 5 days!
Here are some production photos from the first rehearsal with our (excellent) cast:

And here's a photo of the first of Berenice's teeth I've made:

Made of Sculpey and hardened in the oven, then bloodied up. Gross but cool. It's going to take a long time make all of them though.

That's it for now. Tomorrow afternoon we start building the set. It's already here!

Week update!

Sorry for the late post, but I figure once a week is better than never!

So, we decided on adapting the final scene in Edgar Allan Poe's "Bernice." This story will call for a dark aesthetic, low-key lighting, and 3 actors.

We posted the casting call the other day on the AustinFilmCasting Yahoo!Group, and our auditions will be held this Wednesday evening (6-10pm) and possibly Friday as well. We each decided to provide some refreshments and snacks for this. Hopefully some fitting actors come by!

I will post the script Jordan sent out in a separate entry, but it is a brief scene where the lead, a paranoid man in his 30s, goes crazy and sees the ghost of his dead wife while looking at a box on a table beside him. A few minutes later, his servant walks in to tell him that his wife seemed to be buried alive. We find out that it was the lead who tried to murder his wife, as he became obsessed with her teeth.

The scene is brief, but could be very powerful! As this week goes by, we'll straighten out the details. I started drawing some sketches for a storyboard, but I want to get everyone else's feedback before I finish.

Today we have our hands-on quiz in lab, but we'll probably meet each other between our separate times, which are listed below:

Jordan 2:30
Logan 3:00
Analisa 4:15
Laura 6:00

Good luck to everyone on the quiz :) I'm sure we'll do awesome!

And that's the update for this week.

Progress up to now

So, here is the first real post of our blog. Our group consists of:

Producer: Analisa Guerra
Director: Jordan Torres
Assistant Director: Logan Spain
Editor: Laura Davila

We met on Thursday, September 24 and discussed the following

We need to find a script for our scene. We thought about asking around our friends who have unproduced scripts as it would allow us to screen our final product at festivals. Not a requirement, but would be much better for us in the future if we could manage it

One that Jordan brought up was by a friend, and it was a parody of Batman called Ratman and Bobbin. Sounded like a cute idea to me!

We also talked about an idea involving getting a script everyone might be familiar with and totally playing around with its context by changing the characters, setting, and tone of what the original has.

Jordan brought up an idea in her head about making a scene in a bathroom with some sort of tub? If we did this, we might look around at Craig's list or at other places that might have that sort of thing.

Logan suggested doing a cut-scene from Silent Hill. Ultimately, we want to find a sort of scene that can be self contained, has few actors, doesn't require too elaborate of a set/costumes, but still hooks the audience in by building tension.

Aside from the creative side of this project, we also discussed some of the more financial/logistical aspects.

Jordan brought a few request forms we can drop off at businesses to see about catering. We also figured we should reserve a studio for Wednesday, October 7 from 6-9pm for our auditions. We need to offer the actors some snacks and water, so we think the best way to do this would be to each provide something. Jordan and I also agree we should recycle any of those plastic water bottles for make benefit great environment

As for our hands-on quiz for next week, we think it'd be best to try and sign up for the earliest times we can, and get through everything in a block. As we are the first group to go, I hope everyone else in our class understands our need for urgency!

That's about everything we covered when we met. Hope everyone had a good weekend!
